If you run into an error while connecting your Microsoft 365 account to Alfred, this article explains what each message means and what to do about it.
Before you start: you may need IT approval
Many organizations require an IT administrator to approve new app connections before individual users can connect. If your organization has this requirement, you'll see an error asking for admin approval the first time you try to connect.
If this happens, reach out to your IT administrator and ask them to grant Alfred access to your Microsoft 365 account. Once they've authenticated and approved access on their end, you should have the permissions needed to connect, and you can try again.
Common connection errors
If a connection attempt fails after you've signed in with Microsoft, you may see one of the following messages. Here's what each one means and how to resolve it.
"Your organization requires admin approval to connect. Please ask your IT administrator to grant access."
Your organization requires an administrator to approve the connection before you can use it. Contact your IT administrator and ask them to grant Reflexivity access. Once approved, try connecting again.
"The provided provider access token is invalid or has expired. Please request a new token and try again."
Your sign-in session with Microsoft has expired or is no longer valid. This usually resolves on its own - simply start the connection process again to sign in fresh.
"Additional provider authentication is required. Please re-authenticate and try again."
Microsoft needs an extra verification step, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA). Restart the connection and complete any additional sign-in or verification prompts from Microsoft, then try again.
"Failed to verify identity with provider. Ensure accessToken is a valid user access token for this API with the correct audience and scopes."
Alfred wasn't able to verify your Microsoft sign-in with the right permissions. Try disconnecting and reconnecting. If the error continues, your IT administrator may need to confirm that Alfred has been granted the correct access.
"Failed to verify identity. Please try again later."
Microsoft's services are temporarily unavailable. This isn't a problem with your account - wait a few minutes and try again.
"An unexpected error occurred. Please try again."
Something went wrong that we couldn't categorize. Try connecting again. If the error persists, contact Reflexivity support.
Errors before sign-in
You may occasionally see an error before reaching the Microsoft sign-in screen. These are usually temporary and resolve by refreshing or restarting the connection. If one persists, contact Reflexivity support with the message you're seeing:
- "Missing user id" - Your Reflexivity session wasn't recognized. Try signing out and back in.
- "Unsupported provider" - The connection request wasn't recognized. Refresh the page and try again.
- "Invalid request body" - The connection request didn't go through correctly. Refresh and try again.
- "Invalid service" - The data source you selected isn't available for this connection. Refresh and try again.
-
"Invalid extras" - Some account-specific connection details couldn't be verified. Try reconnecting, or contact your IT administrator if it continues.
